Until 18 February 2017
Artistic Director Josie Rourke will revive Bernard Shaw’s seminal play Saint Joan. Gemma Arterton will play Shaw’s central character – a figure who has been described variously through history as a saint, a witch, an illiterate farm girl and a political genius. Other casting includes Matt Bardock as Robert De Baudricourt and D’Estivet, Richard Cant as De Stogumber, Hadley Fraser as Dunois and Elliot Levey as Cauchon. Saint Joan will also be broadcast live in cinemas around the world, directly from the Donmar Warehouse on Thursday 16 February 2017.
Bernard Shaw’s classic play follows the life and trial of a young country girl who declares a bloody mission to drive the English from France. As one of the first Protestants and nationalists, she threatens the very fabric of the feudal society and the Catholic Church across Europe.
